Blocking training bots (like GPTBot) is a valid choice. Blocking search/assistant bots means you won't be cited in their answers.
Checklist and how to fix it

How to Use Is My Website Visible to ChatGPT? (AI Visibility Checker)
- Type your website address, e.g. mybusiness.co.uk (a specific page works too).
- We fetch it like an AI crawler would: the page, robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt.
- Read your score, see which AI assistants are allowed or blocked, and follow the fixes. Copy or share the report.
Will AI assistants recommend your website?
More and more people ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews instead of clicking through search results. Those assistants can only cite your site if their crawlers are allowed in, can read your content without running JavaScript, and can understand what the page is about. This free checker tests all of that in a few seconds.
What it checks
- robots.txt rules for each AI crawler: OpenAI (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User), Anthropic (ClaudeBot, Claude-SearchBot, Claude-User), PerplexityBot, Google (Googlebot, Google-Extended), Bingbot, Applebot-Extended and Common Crawl.
- noindex tags or headers that hide the page.
- Readable content: how many words are in the HTML without JavaScript. Many AI crawlers don't run scripts.
- Structured data (schema.org JSON-LD), title, meta description, H1, canonical and Open Graph tags.
- Sitemap, llms.txt (an emerging plain-text guide for AI) and server speed.
Training vs answering
Some bots collect data to train models (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, CCBot). Others fetch pages to answer questions and cite sources (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot, Bingbot). You can block training while still allowing answers. The checker shows each one separately so you can decide.
The check reads public pages only and doesn't store the address or results.
